Playtron to launch Game Dollar gaming stablecoin on Sui
May 02, 2025
Startup Playtron has officially introduced Game Dollar — a new gamer-focused stablecoin built on the Sui blockchain that will serve as the core of the company’s gaming ecosystem. The announcement was made at the Sui Basecamp conference in Dubai, where the team also showcased the first portable console, SuiPlay0X1.
A Stablecoin Built for Gaming
The launch of Game Dollar is scheduled for Q4 2025, coinciding with the release of the SuiPlay0X1 console. The token will be integrated into GameOS — a Linux-based operating system designed to run both traditional Steam games and Web3 titles via the Playtron Select store.
Game Dollar will serve as a universal payment tool in the gaming ecosystem, enabling users to purchase games, subscribe to services, and earn rewards. The stablecoin will be pegged to the US dollar and backed by short-term US Treasury bonds, following M0 platform standards.
A «Programmable Dollar» Tailored for Gaming
Playtron CEO Kirt McMaster described Game Dollar as a «programmable stable dollar» designed for specific use cases in the gaming industry. According to him, the token can be configured for limited use — for example, for subscriptions or reward systems only.
«We believe stablecoins should be programmable at the use-case level. Game Dollar opens up new economic models for developers and marketplaces,» he emphasized.
McMaster compared the concept to the Starbucks digital wallet, where users earn points for purchases. Unlike traditional stablecoins, however, Game Dollar is built on-chain and will eventually be integrated into other platforms compatible with GameOS.
As a reminder, in September 2024, Mysten Labs opened pre-orders for the SuiPlay0X1 Web3 console — a key component of Playtron’s upcoming ecosystem.
