According to Transak representatives, the attacker gained access to the data of 92,554 users, which is 1.14% of the total database. However, the company assures that critical information was not compromised.

Phishing and its consequences

The hacker used a phishing attack to gain access to the laptop of one of the employees. Using this method, the attacker was able to obtain customer data through the provider's control panel.

Despite the fact that Transak is a non-custodial platform and does not hold users' funds, the incident raises important questions about personal information protection.

Who is investigating the incident?

To investigate the incident, Transak has engaged third-party cybersecurity experts. Regulatory authorities in the UK, as well as in the EU and the US, have also been notified of the situation.

Demands of the criminals

According to recent reports, the hacker group Stormous has claimed responsibility for the breach, stating that they stole over 300 GB of confidential data, including personal identification and financial reports.

The criminals are demanding $30,000 for the deletion of the data; however, the company has refused to negotiate.
