Pump.fun introduces meme coin creator rewards

Cryptocurrencies

May 13, 2025

Pump.fun, the meme coin creation platform, has introduced a new rewards mechanism that will distribute a share of its trading revenue to token creators. Starting this May, 0.05% of each token's trading volume will be paid directly to its originator.

50% of Platform Revenue Goes to Meme Coin Creators

Half of the SOL-based revenue generated by Pump.fun will now be redirected to meme coin developers. The reward equals 0.05% of a token's total trading volume — meaning a $1 million volume would earn the creator $5000.

To qualify for payouts, several conditions must be met:

  • The token must be recently created;
  • It must remain on the bonding curve;
  • It must have recently launched on PumpSwap.

Creators can request rewards at any time through their profile page. Note that trading volume prior to May 12 is excluded from the calculation, and retroactive rewards will not be issued.

Fee Adjustment Triggers Community Backlash

According to the updated documentation, the 0.05% reward will now be deposited directly into the token creator’s storage wallet. This change effectively increases the total transaction fee on PumpSwap to 0.3%: 0.25% as the standard fee and an additional 0.05% for the creator.

Data from DeFi Llama shows that PumpSwap recorded $11.3 billion in trading volume in April, while Pump.fun reached $3.32 billion. Extrapolated to May, this could result in approximately $7.3 million in potential payouts to meme coin creators.

Despite the generous initiative, the update has sparked criticism within the crypto community. Critics argue that it may incentivize dishonest behavior and encourage low-effort or scam projects to flood the platform.
