Football Premier League concludes record-breaking cryptocurrency deals
October 08, 2024
Premier League (EPL) clubs have signed record-breaking sponsorship deals with cryptocurrency companies worth $170 million for the 2024/25 season. This comes amid tightened restrictions on gambling sponsorships, which have traditionally been a major source of revenue for football clubs.
Top clubs' deals with platforms
Several leading clubs have already secured significant crypto deals. For example, the exchange Kraken now sponsors EPL’s Tottenham Hotspur, La Liga’s Atlético Madrid, and RB Leipzig from the German Bundesliga.
Additionally, in June 2023, Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, extended their partnership with OKX for three years. This deal is valued at $70 million.
Expansion to other leagues
Crypto.com is actively involved with the football world. The company, which holds the naming rights to the former Staples Center in Los Angeles, has announced that it will sponsor the UEFA Champions League until 2027.
However, this type of sponsorship extends beyond the top leagues. Turkish club Galatasaray has signed a deal with blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence worth around $4 million. The company’s logo will appear on the team’s shirt sleeves for two seasons.
