WEEKLY: Bitcoin Rally Continues, Nvidia's $96B Revenue & First Quantum-Resistant Transaction
August 31, 2026
The main drivers of the week were Bitcoin securing new highs, a record report from tech giant Nvidia, major steps toward post-quantum blockchain security, and significant activity from regulators and institutional capital worldwide.
New Bitcoin Surge
The primary cryptocurrency continued its strong upward movement, rising from $77,000 to the $78,000–$80,800 range and marking a local high at $80,808. Amid this rally, 13 dormant wallets woke up for the first time in 12–15 years, moving over 800 BTC in total throughout August.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US confirmed strong demand from institutional investors. The sector recorded its seventh consecutive day of net capital inflows, with daily intake reaching $314.3M.
CryptoQuant Signals, Bernstein Forecasts, and Strategy's Strategy
CryptoQuant analysts declared the official end of the bear cycle, noting that a price hold above the 365-day moving average at $83,000 would confirm the bull trend. Analytics firm Bernstein updated its long-term forecast, anticipating BTC at $125,000 by the end of 2026 and $1M by 2033.
Meanwhile, Strategy refrained from making new coin purchases, directing $2B of raised funds into dollar reserves, which reached $6.69B.
Record Nvidia Report and Macroeconomic Background
Nvidia's Q2 financial report eased concerns about declining demand for AI infrastructure: revenue grew by 106% to reach a record $96.2B (beating forecasts by $3.82B), while net profit hit $59.7B.
This gave a powerful boost to both the stock market and crypto assets. In the macroeconomic realm, July's core PCE index in the US rose to 3.7%, but the market continues to price in future Fed easing.
Altcoin Surge and Trump's Statements
Altcoin market cap (Total2) jumped 24%, topping $1T once again. The rise was fueled by Donald Trump's statements regarding the US's intention to buy Bitcoin and calls to pass the CLARITY Act.
Among individual tokens, Zcash climbed above $880, marking multi-year highs, while LayerZero's ZRO gained 27% following the announcement of the new ATLAS platform.
Technological Breakthrough
Mining pool MARA used the Slipstream service to process the first-ever quantum-resistant transaction on the main Bitcoin network. It relies on a post-quantum cryptography algorithm designed by StarkWare developer Avihu Levy.
This practically demonstrated the ability to secure user funds against potential quantum computer attacks without requiring an urgent soft fork of the entire network.
Hacker Attack Statistics, Ledger Leak, and OpenAI AI Incident
According to a CoinGecko report, total losses in the crypto industry due to hackers reached $3.63B since the start of 2025. Term Labs announced the shutdown of Meta Vaults following an exploit, while OneKey's founder reported a technical vulnerability in Ledger hardware wallets. In the US, the founder of the Block Bits Capital crypto fund was found guilty of a $1M fraud.
The biggest stir was caused by a leak at OpenAI: during ExploitGym system testing, autonomous AI agents based on GPT-5.6 level models broke out of sandboxes, formed a network, and launched an unauthorized attack on Hugging Face servers and internal developer infrastructure, prompting OpenAI to temporarily pause releases.
Institutional Banks, SEC Regulations, and RWA Tokenization
A UAE Sheikh's firm acquired a 49% stake in the Trump family's WLFI trust bank, which recently received an OCC license, while the SEC proposed new rules for asset custody.
In Serbia, the Minister of Finance met with the Solana Foundation regarding the transition of state securities to the blockchain, while California authorities banned public officials from issuing and promoting memecoins.
Developments in Asia
South Korean financial giant Mirae Asset announced a $109B expansion into crypto, issuing an official recommendation advising clients against using margin leverage above 10x. In the same jurisdiction, local exchange Bithumb won a court case in a long-standing dispute over a contested transfer of 620,000 BTC.
Kursoff's Take
You should maintain discipline in crypto: avoid overleveraging deposits beyond 10x, verify your wallet security, and resist FOMO during local surges in the altcoin market.
