WEEKLY: Saylor vs. JPMorgan Skepticism, OpenAI AI Agents, and Interpol's Crypto Crackdown
July 13, 2026
While the summer of 2026 is putting investors’ nerves to the test, the Web3 industry is showing no signs of slowing down. We've prepared a roundup of the week's biggest stories: from MicroStrategy's multi-billion-dollar moves to the AI storm and Binance's new records.
Bitcoin and Macroeconomics: Is Demand Returning?
ETFs Are in the Red, but Bernstein Still Sees $150,000
Spot Bitcoin ETFs have recorded outflows for the eighth consecutive week (investors withdrew more than $526 million). However, CryptoQuant analysts remain optimistic: the futures market has seen one of the fastest demand surges of the year.
- Forecasts: Bernstein analysts remain confident, maintaining their $150,000 year-end target and describing the current correction as mild compared to previous market cycles.
- HODL Until the End: Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who bought BTC near the $100,000 peak and suffered losses, said he will not sell his holdings even if Bitcoin falls "to zero."
- Price: At the time of writing, the leading cryptocurrency is trading around $64,040.
Saylor's Move and Criticism from JPMorgan
MicroStrategy sold 3,588 BTC ($216 million) to pay dividends. However, with holdings exceeding 843,000 BTC, Michael Saylor remains the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holder. Grayscale believes this move will only strengthen confidence in the company's financial model.
While Saylor sees Bitcoin as "global digital capital," JPMorgan has identified a new threat. The bank believes the main risk for BTC is not sell pressure but the rise of private blockchains and tokenized deposits, which could attract major institutional investors.
Trump's Bitcoin Reserve Meets Bureaucracy
Donald Trump's ambitious plan to establish a U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve has temporarily stalled. According to Bloomberg, the U.S. Treasury Department and the Department of Commerce have entered a legal dispute over who should oversee the crypto holdings. The White House is already searching for alternative governance models.
Ethereum: AI Audits and Buterin's "Third Era"
- Mass Migration to Wallets: On-chain metrics are sending mixed signals. Exchange ETH reserves are increasing, while Santiment recorded the largest Binance withdrawal in three years (more than 166,000 ETH). Investors are moving Ether to cold wallets and DeFi, partly due to concerns surrounding the full implementation of MiCA regulations in the EU.
- AI for Security: The Ethereum Foundation has deployed coordinated AI agents to review critical network code. The key takeaway: AI is excellent at finding bugs, but verifying whether the AI auditor itself is "hallucinating" takes the most time.
- Lean Ethereum: Vitalik Buterin unveiled the roadmap for Ethereum's "third era." The focus is on scaling, quantum resistance, and faster transaction processing.
Memecoins, Solana, and Major Crypto Crimes
Memecoin Mania: From $838 to $1 Million (and Back)
The memecoin market continues to experience extreme volatility:
- Success Story: An unknown trader turned $838 invested in the CASHCAT token into $1.05 million in just 20 days.
- Failure Story: More than 1 million investors in the TRUMP token collectively lost around $3.8 billion. Lawyers are already preparing class-action lawsuits against the creators.
Solana: FUD Is Rising, but So Are the Metrics
Santiment analysts recorded a record level of fear and negativity (FUD) surrounding Solana. At the same time, the network's fundamentals remain strong: tokenized asset volume has reached $5.7 billion, stablecoin supply has exceeded $15 billion, and daily active addresses remain above 1 million.
Interpol's "First Light 2026" Operation
Interpol, together with law enforcement agencies from 97 countries, delivered a major blow to financial fraudsters. The results are impressive: 5,811 arrests, 31,000 frozen accounts, and $293 million seized. A significant portion of the schemes involved laundering money through cryptocurrency.
$20 Million BonkDAO Exploit and Double Scam in Ukraine
- Governance Vulnerability: An attacker simply purchased $4.4 million worth of BONK tokens, gained voting control, and approved a malicious proposal that automatically drained $20 million from the BonkDAO treasury.
- Crypto Scam in Ukraine: A resident of the Ternopil region lost more than $30,000. First, he was deceived by a fake investment platform, and later targeted again with an offer to recover the funds using a crypto mixer, paying fictitious fees in the process.
Stablecoins: Circle Under Pressure, Banks Enter the Game
Prosecutors vs. Circle
The issuer of USDC is facing harsh criticism from U.S. law enforcement and a criminal complaint in Wisconsin. The company is accused of refusing to freeze and return stolen USDC to fraud victims even after court rulings. Circle has promised to develop a new legal mechanism for compensation.
Traditional Giants Move to Blockchain
- Circle received final approval to launch its own national trust bank in the United States.
- Sony is creating Connectia Trust with $40 million in capital to issue U.S. dollar stablecoins.
- Hyundai successfully tested international settlements between the United States and Mexico using Avalanche-based stablecoins. The transaction took just 7 minutes instead of several days through the SWIFT system.
Artificial Intelligence: The Era of Autonomous AI Agents
OpenAI and Microsoft Launch ChatGPT Work
OpenAI introduced its flagship GPT-5.6 model, which will be integrated into Microsoft 365 Copilot (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). The week's biggest announcement was ChatGPT Work — an autonomous AI agent capable of performing complex business tasks for hours without human intervention while interacting with Slack, Google Drive, and Salesforce.
The Infrastructure Race: $19 Billion for Anthropic
- Meta has begun manufacturing its own Iris AI chip and plans to expand its data center capacity to 14 GW by 2027. However, Mark Zuckerberg admitted that AI agent development is progressing more slowly than expected.
- Miner TeraWulf has fully transitioned into AI hosting by signing a massive 20-year, $19 billion contract with Anthropic.
- SpaceXAI responded with the release of Grok 4.5, which now writes code faster while consuming half as many tokens.
Warning from CertiK: As AI advances, traditional one-time smart contract audits are losing their effectiveness. Hackers now use neural networks to instantly identify vulnerabilities, making continuous security essential for DeFi. Binance Shows Its Strength
Despite pressure from the U.S. Department of Justice, Binance continues to strengthen its market position:
- The platform now holds 57% of all exchange stablecoin reserves.
- BNB Chain processes more than 10 million stablecoin transactions every day.
- Binance captured 80% of the perpetual futures market for traditional stocks ($53 billion in trading volume during June alone).
Looking Ahead: BNB Chain unveiled the roadmap for a new Layer 1 blockchain designed specifically for AI agents. It promises latency below 50 ms and built-in protection against MEV bots. Testnet launch is expected by the end of 2026.
