US government approves blockchain-based animal certification system
October 11, 2024
CattleProof, a decentralized cattle verification service from Wyoming, became the first blockchain-based program under the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Process Verified Program (PVP).
This innovative approach enables tracking information about individual cows using a decentralized digital ledger.
How the system works
The company uses electronic identification tags attached to the animals to transmit data about their condition, location, and other attributes to the blockchain. This technology ensures the immutability of records and increases the transparency of verification.
Uniqueness and achievements
CattleProof became the first American company to receive USDA approval for using blockchain in the PVP. This allows the company to set voluntary standards within the regulatory system aimed at monitoring the condition of cattle.
According to the company, CattleProof is also the only service providing a "Born in the USA" certificate for cattle, using digital documents containing hyperlinks to the data of each animal.
Integration with Heartland Payments
Additionally, CattleProof has partnered with Heartland Payments, enabling the buying and selling of USDA-certified cattle directly through the platform, using blockchain to ensure transaction transparency.
