FIFA to launch EVM-compatible blockchain on May 20, 2025
May 01, 2025
FIFA has announced the launch of its own blockchain network with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, which will replace current solutions based on Algorand and Polygon for the FIFA Collect digital collectibles platform. Migration to the new infrastructure is scheduled no earlier than May 20, 2025.
Transition to FIFA’s Own Blockchain
According to the official FAQ, the new FIFA Blockchain will deliver improved performance, scalability, and support for future features. Users will be able to connect to the platform through popular EVM wallets such as MetaMask via WalletConnect. After migration, support for Algorand wallets—including Pera and Defly—will be discontinued.
All current digital assets held by users will be automatically transferred to the new platform. However, if any collectibles were previously exported outside the platform, they must be re-imported by May 20, 2025, to be included in the migration process. FIFA will temporarily activate the import function for this purpose. After that date, transferring such assets will only be possible via customer support and may require additional verification.
The FIFA Collect platform will be unavailable for approximately 12 hours during migration. Users will be notified in advance of the exact start time. Any USDC balance can be spent before the migration date; after the switch, funds can only be withdrawn and will no longer be usable for purchases on the platform.
This move reflects FIFA’s commitment to digital innovation and its efforts to strengthen engagement with a global fanbase through modern blockchain-based solutions.
