Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has received official licensing under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation from the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA). This allows the company to legally operate across the entire European Economic Area (EEA).

Bybit EU, the company’s subsidiary, is now a regulated crypto-asset service provider (CASP). This grants it the right to expand its crypto services across 29 EEA member countries, reaching nearly 500 million consumers.

Vienna — the new European headquarters

Along with receiving the license, Bybit has officially designated Austria as its main operational hub in Europe. As stated by Mazurka Zeng, CEO of Bybit Europe:

“Vienna is now home to Bybit Europe. We are proud to contribute to Austria’s dynamic financial ecosystem by investing in talent and innovation.”

The company plans to hire over 100 employees to support local operations and develop localized services in compliance with EU regulations.

Partnership with regulators

Bybit co-founder and CEO Ben Zhou emphasized:

“Securing MiCA licensing in Austria is a testament to our commitment to responsibility and regulatory compliance. We work closely with regulators worldwide to ensure the reliability of our platform.”

In addition to expanding its team, Bybit also announced a collaboration with European universities under the Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) initiative, aimed at promoting blockchain technologies in socially beneficial contexts.
