XRP Ledger restores operations after one-hour network outage
February 05, 2025
The XRP Ledger blockchain faced an unexpected halt on February 4, causing the network to stop publishing validations for over an hour. Ripple’s CTO confirmed that the network was successfully restarted 64 minutes after the outage.
According to XRPL, the failure occurred at block 93,927,174, and operations were restored at 10:58 UTC.
Cause of the outage and validator intervention
Schwartz noted that during the outage, the consensus mechanism was functioning, but transactions were not being validated, leading to a network split. Restoration required manual intervention by validator operators, who selected a synchronization point.
It is presumed that the network could have recovered automatically, as only a few nodes changed their settings.
Despite the outage, user funds remained secure.
Impact on XRP price
During the outage, XRP’s price dropped to $2.45 but rebounded by 3.2% after the network was restored. Since November, it has surged by 396% amid Trump’s victory.
