CME prepares to launch futures for XRP and SOL
January 23, 2025
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) may soon launch cryptocurrency futures for XRP and SOL. According to information that appeared on the platform's test subdomain, trading could begin as early as February 10 — provided regulatory approval is granted.
"If beta.cmegroup is indeed a test version of the CME Group website, then everything suggests that the exchange is planning to launch futures for SOL and XRP on February 10," noted Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart. He emphasized that this step was expected, provided the information is confirmed.
What contracts will be available?
According to the notice, CME will offer monthly cash-settled contracts in two formats. The standard contract will be targeted at institutional investors, while the micro-format is designed for more precise risk management. These instruments will allow market participants to scale their risks and enhance flexibility in managing investments.
Accidental leak or launch preparation?
A CME representative stated that the test version of the website was accidentally made publicly accessible and that no official decisions on contract launches have been made yet. Meanwhile, Bloomberg expert Eric Balchunas believes that a Solana futures ETF could appear as early as March, as the SEC is expected to issue a preliminary decision on Solana-ETF applications from several companies between January 23-25.
